This week, there are two important announcements for all Postdocs and Research Associates invested in securing a transformative first contract:

  1. This Wednesday, June 3rd at 1pm, fellow academic researchers will meet to deliver a petition signed by more than 700 of our coworkers to Provost Jackson’s office in College Hall. The petition calls on Penn admin to come to an agreement on proposals that would establish increased appointment lengths and improved rights and protections for international researchers. The delivery will be preceded by remarks from a fellow Postdoc on the significance of these proposals and the importance of our ongoing contract campaign. All Postdocs and Research Associates are invited to attend! For more details and to RSVP, please click this link.
  2. Next Monday, June 8th, nominations will open to replace an outgoing member of the RAPUP-UAW Bargaining Committee. If you are interested in negotiating alongside your coworkers to win the stability, security, and improved working conditions that we all deserve, consider running for the Bargaining Committee. See this document to read more about the responsibilities of Bargaining Committee members, or reach out to info@pennpostdocsunion.org with any further questions.

Academic workers from GETUP-UAW and RAPUP-UAW were joined last week by baristas from Starbucks Workers United for a documentary screening and discussion about their historic union campaign.
